For the first time, with this new Winbirds 6.1 version – The Atlas of European Birds, you, as a user, will experience a new dimension: WinBirds is online!
Directly from the software, a (registered) user can connect to the shared online database. This opening allows you to share notes and observations with other Winbirds users and them only. This opening also enables you to access observations that other users published. As a compromise, they will also be able to read yours. In all cases, the data sharing part is not compulsory – it is only to be considered like a new and powerful means to enlarge your ornithological observations.
The new improved interface, as well as the revised design of The Atlas of European Birds, characterizes this new version of the software. It also offers beginners a very friendly and clear environment and performance. :
• When starting, the program automatically searches for any available update (on the net),
• When selecting a species, you get an instant preview of all available information,
• When chosing a species in the family tree view, a new window opens, showing all the information on the chosen species, a drawing with identification criteria, a descriptive text and a distribution map.

All photos can be used in a slide show and all sound recordings of the different species can be used as background sound.

The user can submit corrections that will be taken into account in a later update for distribution maps as for all media.

But the software also offers many other advantages:

• Even more species: over 20 new species (including all associated media).
• The users can add their own videos for each species;
• For each media of each species, you can send us your comments, thus helping to update data for all!
• All media and information for each species can be exported as individual files or as a web page;
• The input of observations is even more precise with new fields (e.g. GPS coordinates…).
